  1. Work from the top to bottom, inside to outside, to avoid getting what you just cleaned dirty again.
  2. Do one room at a time to avoid unfinished jobs.
  3. Use good rubber or vinyl gloves to protect your skin.
  4. Dust before vacuuming or mopping the floors.
  5. Clean ceiling with a broom or extendable duster then wipe light fixtures with a damp cloth and check they do not have any dead insects in them.
  6. Repair cracks in walls and touch up paint. Scrub with mild all-purpose cleaner; don’t forget around light switches and doorknobs to erase fingerprints and marks.
  7. Steam-clean carpets if possible, or sprinkle with baking soda and vacuum vigorously.
  8. Using a multi-purpose cleaner wipe down the interior and the exterior of all cabinets and closets.
  9. Sweep and clean the exterior of the house including balcony, patio and doors.
  10. Remove all of the shelves and drawers from the refrigerator and place in the dishwasher. Wipe down the interior of the refrigerator, being certain to remove any food build-up.

For a lot of kids, moving means leaving everything important behind. They are not normally involved in the decision and oftentimes do not understand why the move is necessary.
  1. Tell your children as soon as you can to allow time for them to warm up to the idea

  2. As they become used to the idea, tell them more about their new home.

  3. Accept that it may take some time for children to let go.

  4. Involve your children in the move. and ask for their opinions and suggestions.

1.  Refer to the manufacturers' guide for moving instructions. If you no longer have these, visit the manufacturer's website for an online version or to request a copy. If you have the original packaging, use that to pack your equipment

2.  When packing printers ensure you remove the toner and ink cartridges and store in sealable bags. Pack these bags in the same box with the equipment.

3.  Purchase labels large enough to write on but small enough to secure to connection ports. Coloured, round sticky circles are perfect for this. Before disconnecting any wires or plugs, mark the cable and port you're removing it from with a coloured label.

4.  Use twist ties to secure cables so they don't unravel. Place the cables and wires into a sealable bag and tape to the piece of equipment.

5.  Try to use anti-static packing materials. Some materials conduct electricity that could damage your electronics.

6.  Remove all parts that can be disconnected, wrap each piece separately and secure ends with tape.

7.  Place the largest piece of equipment on the bottom of your box. Fill holes with an anti-static packing material and place smaller items on top. Make sure nothing rattles or can shift during relocation.

8.  Seal your boxes with packing tape and mark it "Fragile" indicating which end is up, the contents and which room it belongs to.

9.  CD's and DVD's cannot tolerate high temperatures. You may want to carry these with you as opposed to placing on the moving truck.

10.  Look into Electronic Recycling programs to dispose of unwanted or old electronics. This will save you time and money relocating items you no longer need or use.
